Animation the Most Competitive Oscar Category?

Earlier this year, there was discussion that Wall-E should be a serious contender for Best Picture, not just Best Animated Feature, for which it was assumed that it would win easily. Now, it looks like Wall-E is not even a lock to win the animation category.
