Oscar Nomination Predictions

Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22. Here is who I predict will be nominated for the major categories.

Best Picture
  • No Country for Old Men

  • The Namesake (OK, just hoping here). More likely--There Will be Blood
Bet Director
  • Joel and Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men
  • Joe Wright, Atonement
  • Sean Penn, Into the Wild
  • PT Anderson, There Will Be Blood
  • Ridley Scott, American Gangster
Best Actor
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
  • Sam Riley, Control

Best Actress

you really think juno might get a best picture nomination? the academy hates comedies when it comes to that category. i think it's far more likely the namesake makes the list than juno. substitute juno with "there will be blood"

Hey Noz, have you forgotten 'Little Miss Sunshine'? I'm not saying Juno will win...

sure, sometimes when the stars align just right, there's a comedy that the academy doesn't hate. but "little miss sunshine" was an exception. "juno" could do it, but it's still unlikely.

actually, I'd say it's more a question of LMS setting the stage for Juno, which, in addition to being a comedy, is an indie, which helps (and a financially successful indie which reeaaallly helps). Also, the producer's guild nod almost makes it a lock.
